We aren't ones to blow our own horn (okay...maybe we are sometimes), but we do get really excited when some of our early music discoveries start to get attention on the global scene. Well today Spotify released its predictions for the breakout stars of 2015. All we can say is "what took you so long?" Half of the acts picked by Spotify to make it big in 2015 have already been featured on our past playlists. Here are some of the acts that we were among the first to rave about:
Mikky Ekko Back in March, we featured Mikky Ekko on our Sounds Like Winter playlist. We've been letting people know about Mikky Ekko since 2011. Seinabo Sey We featured Seinabo Say and her great song "Hard Time" in our June 2014 edition of The Tasty Turntable playlist. George Ezra and James Bay These two artists were featured in our July 2014 edition of The Tasty Turntable playlist. Raury and Ryn Weaver Raury and Ryn Weaver were a part of our August 2014 edition of The Tasty Turntable. MisterWives and AURORA Back in October, MisterWives and AURORA were center stage on the October 2014 edition of The Tasty Turntable. MisterWives were also featured in March on our Retail Radio playlist. Kim Cesarion We were playing Kim Cesarion's music for our friends back in April of this 2014. This has happened to us before. Back in 2011, we included Bastille in Volume 5 of our Unsigned Finds series and Gotye in Volume 8 of that series. In early 2012 we featured acts such as Rhye and The Neighborhood (with the soon-to-be-hit song Sweater Weather) in Volume 14, and MS MR in Volume 16. KONGOS was featured in Volume 18 in 2013. Other acts that we touted in our Unsigned Finds series before they broke out to wider audiences have included Lord Huron who were featured in both Unsigned Finds Volume 2 and Volume 4 in 2011; Never Shout Never, The Maine and The Summer Set who were all featured in Volume 3; Michael Kiwanuka included in Volume 4; Fanfarlo in Unsigned Finds Volume 5 also in 2011; Alpine in Volume 7; Polica and How to Dress Well in Volume 8; Meikio in Volume 13; Electric Guest and Selah Sue in Volume 14; and Gregory Alan Isakov in Volume 15; Back in January of 2013, we featured such acts as Panama, MKTO, French Montana, Joey Bada$$, Maya Jane Coles and Haim on our The Door to Cool playlist. But don't just take our word for it. Our friends at Playlists.net have said that "Unsigned Finds, is the best place to discover new and unsigned artists on Spotify." So, if you want to hear new music first, head on over to The Tasty Turntable (toot toot)!
